We have two large bedrooms and bathrooms, screened in porch, two decks, wood stove, hot tub and a one of a kind custom light fixture that sets the mood for the perfect escape to the mountains. Aptly named "Ode to Joy" you will find much needed joy should you choose to stay at our one of a kind retreat nestled in the Cacapon Mountains in Berkeley Springs. Ode to Joy is a renovated A Frame Cabin located at the end of a private road in the community of Coolfont Mountainside in Berkeley Springs WV. We made sure our place was unique - Its by far The Coolest Cabin in Coolfont! Featured on Cabin Porn and many travel blogs on Insta. Traditional A Frame with two bedrooms two bathrooms. A tiny but functional kitchen with smaller appliances (fridge, stove pots pans and dishwasher). New sofa ( June 2021), laundry and even a wine fridge!
Our BRAND NEW (April 2021) PRIVATE hot tub is open YEAR ROUND. Our wood stove is operational Oct 15-March 15. Coolfont neighborhood features a resort restaurant , walking and hiking trails , a seasonal lake with fishing, kayak, and paddle board rentals. Community pool ( Memorial to Labor days), tennis and is a short walk to a local brew pub for a pint and a bite (Berkeley Springs Brewing Company and Coolfont Resorts Treetop restaurant). If you want more adventure we are just a short car ride to the spas, dining and shopping of Downtown BS, The C and O canal in Hancock for mountain biking and running and Cacapon State Park for hiking, golf, mountain biking and the lake. Whitetail resort is a 30 min drive for skiing or boarding. Be sure to look at all of our pics - your next vacation should be here! Please note we do not have a fire pit as fires are not allowed on Cacapon mountain due to the density of the forest and the pool is open in 2021 . Coolfont is very well known for its beauty and privacy. Hiking, tennis, pool, lake and walkable to a restaurant
- No Children under 12.
- Guests must rinse off before using Hot Tub . If not followed you will be charged extra hot tub clean fees .
- PLEASE MESSAGE BEFORE BOOKING WITH A DOG (Dogs only please ) $50 fee one dog maximum .
- Quiet hours outside. Please respect our neighborhood and neighbors. It’s a peaceful retreat - Absolutely no events or parties .
- Minimum age renter is 28.
- EXTRA MESS = EXTRA CLEAN FEES.
- 2 cars max per property.
- You will be charged for any damage incurred from misuse of the Hot Tub.
- Please read all hot tub/ wood stove rules as posted in property.
- Wood stove use for Oct 1 - March 31 only.
The whole cabin is for guests besides the owners closet. Hot tub is open year round! Wood stove fall and winter season only.
We leave guests their privacy however there is a property manager if needed.
In winter you may need 4 wheel drive in snowy conditions. It snows often in the WV mountains and we are not able to cancel or move reservations because of snow so please be prepared before booking.
YOU MUST MESSAGE FIRST BEFORE BRINGING A PET - EXTRA FEES APPLY $50 pet fee. Only dogs allowed and one dog max. Our kitchen is small - just enough for a short stay.
We have great local restaurants to check out within walking distance! Coolfont is a quiet neighborhood in the woods so please respect the neighbors and wildlife when outdoors. .
Two cars max allowed in drive per HOA.
The TV's are both Roku set in guest mode for use with your streaming subscriptions only. Please note that as the mountain does not get cable or satellite - as stated - the internet can be spotty and is not ideal for heavy use. It’s a true mountain experience .

October 2025We had a great time at Megan’s A frame! The place is well laid out and everything was easy to find. The hot tub stayed hot the duration of the trip and we relaxed in it before bed every evening. The bed was comfortable and we fell right asleep every night. The place is secluded and beautiful but a short drive away from all there is to do in Berkeley Springs!

August 2025The cabin was nice but we will for sure stay somewhere else next time. The host isn’t as welcoming as we have experienced with past host. There are “rules” with threats of “fines” posted all over the place that make you worried to use the hot tub or grill and be comfortable. Not only that but they are contradicting. One place say hot tub temp max is 101, 2 places say 102, and the sliding door say 104. I do understand rules are needed but the way they are posted everywhere and different in each place really puts you off. I have rented many air b n b’s, they all have rules but they are for sure laid out in a more welcoming manor. The Roku system on the lower level TV was not working. We did reach out to the host but she wasn’t very helpful nor did she seem to care. We came up with our own solution of swapping the systems between tv. There were no check out instructions which left me uneasy considering all the rules so we did our best based on previous host’s requests.

June 2025Beautiful A frame cabin. Peaceful and quiet. The hot tub was lovely, we used it every night. We used the pool pass and enjoyed swimming in the community pool. It was really nice. Not the host’s fault, but there were a lot of bugs outside, and some inside too. I think that’s just part of living in the woods.

When we weren't out hiking, we were on the screened-in porch enjoying the sounds of rustling trees and birds chirping while watching a family of deer forage. It was just the little getaway we needed from Baltimore, from... humans!

April 2025Nice cabin in a quiet neighborhood, clean hot tub, and all around good value for the money. The cabin is slightly dated, but mostly well furnished and provisioned. The hot tub and deck are great and the cabin is far enough from others in the neighborhood to feel private. We loved the location close to biking, restaurants, and Cacapon State Park. Despite the cabin's many charms, the host's initial communications and the many signs/labels/laminated warnings with threats of fines placed all around the interior of the cabin put a cloud over our stay. We were afraid to use the space or the amenities we'd paid for, as reminders of how much guests would be fined for infractions were everywhere; overbearing, off-putting, and often in ALL CAPS. A gas grill at the cabin is a listed amenity, but multiple warnings threaten a $200 fine for not cleaning it properly and perhaps more if a bear comes and tips it over. As a result, we were scared to use it. We'll look for another property next time.

Berkeley Springs was only a short drive away which was great for sightseeing. We would definitely come back for another stay!

November 2024Megan's Coolfont cabin is absolutely beautiful. The A-frame house is exactly as described and pictured in the Airbnb listing. The house was SPOTLESS, probably the cleanest Airbnb I have rented. The hot tub is very nice as is the wood stove. The Coolfont Resort area is quiet and peaceful and is nice that there is a hiking trail right by the cabin. Check-in was very easy and the door code made logistics easier to handle. Megan was incredibly responsive to my messages and answered every question I had. Would definitely recommend.

September 2024My husband and I loved this little A-frame in the woods, and so did our dog. The property was easy to find, in a great location, and very quiet/peaceful. All the listed amenities were available and more. WiFi was very spotty but not an issue for us as we spent a lot of time playing board games, exploring the woods, cooking, and enjoying the deck and hot tub. Definitely recommend for a relaxing weekend getaway from the DC area!

September 2024Great cabin stay if you're looking to have a peaceful trip! The wi-fi was very spotty, but we tend to unwind and unplug on our trips so it didn't take away from our experience. The cabin's location is very private with a couple good restaurants less than 5 minutes away! It's also only about a 10-15 min drive into town and to the state park. We love to go hiking during the day and the hot tub at night was great for relaxing our sore muscles. Overall, it was a great trip and the cabin was clean and had everything we needed and more for out stay.

August 2024Coffee on the deck in the cool mornings, surrounded by trees and only the sounds of nature. Truly, almost heaven! A great area for exploring, yet 10 minutes to BS with shops and restaurants. We love the area and return every year. This is our favorite place yet. The internet was indeed spotty, as I figure the area shares bandwidth. After 9 am, I was unable to access internet and also had no cell service. But, it was very peaceful that way! Also, one thing to note for the squeamish: this is nature and spiders rule!
